Our events are always a blast… for both the artist and our guests!
ISOLA: Exploring the Depths of Solitude and Connection
"Isola" (Italian for "Island") is the evocative title of a series of cultural events that will take place at Plastico Gallery from 26 October until 21 December, 2024. Through feature films, photography, novels, and poetry, these events delve into the experiences of the voiceless marginalised, lovers separated by a screen, strangers in a foreign land, and the divided (and the united) in a collective narrative about the emotions of those who live in a symbolic "elsewhere."

On Saturday 8th July at 8pm, Plastico opens its doors to the exhibition of the month, The Icarus Illusion by the Belgian artist Peter Macken.
Chrysoula Kehagioglou & Iordanis Gymnopoulos live at Plastico Gallery

Drawings & Watercolours
Plastico Gallery invites you to the opening of the exhibition of its founder, Spiros Baras.
After 9 years of living on the island (3 of which running the gallery), Spiros never stopped painting and loving art.
Armaud
Paola Fecarotta (aka Armaud) is an Italian musician from Rome who has spent more than a year on the beautiful island of Syros.
On Saturday 16th April at 9:30pm she will play some of her songs accompanied by her guitar. Her ethereal vocals (which sometimes remind us of Alison Shaw, the vocalist of Cranes ) create a relaxed and beautiful atmosphere, suitable for old fashioned drinks and reminiscences.
Her music is available on Spotify under the pseudonym Armaud.
Fade to Dust: live music event
Plastico opens the doors to spring with one of the first live music events of the year.
On Saturday, April 9th, at 9pm, join us for a warm and atmospheric night with the songs of Project Revisited, aka Thodoris Ganoudis. Feel free to ask our bartender Stathis which cocktail suits the gentle sound of Thodoris' guitar.
It can also be a glass of wine. Your choice, eventually.
We hope you'll join us!
The Introversion of the Outside
This month, and till 4th June 2022, Plastico Gallery has the honour to host the work of Greek artist Maria Tzirozidou.
In her artworks, she unleashes the energy she gets from her environment. The result is sometimes dynamical, sometimes lyrical. The oil on the canvas is dense and rich, creating a fascinating pattern that reminds us of the beautiful Cycladic springs.
"I never focus on the pattern and the surrounding space.
I want to create an interior landscape."
Maria Tzirozidou was born in 1975 in Athens. She graduated with honors from the School of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has exhibited in Athens, Thessaloniki and other cities in Greece.
Apocalypse by James Chadderton
You suddenly find yourself alone in a destroyed world. The once familiar city has now been left lifeless in a derelict and eroded state. Humans are gone or killed. You have entered the semi-fictional world of mixed media artist, James Chadderton.
Manchester-based artist, James Chadderton, creates a series of images showing how popular landmark sites might look after an apocalypse. Maintaining a degree of realism, James draws the viewer into an alternative reality, where iconic, bright and sometimes playful areas are turned into something dark and macabre. Depicted in a derelict and eroded state, the cities have been left lifeless. Humans are gone or killed.
The viewer is entering a world of aggression where the urge to destroy is interwoven with confronting, calming and compelling feelings.
In James’ semi-fictional world, irony and cheerfulness meet fear of transience and death. It is precisely in the synthesis of these opposing, colliding worlds that the attraction of his work lies. James’ art is exposing the world and its complex, unspoken ways long before reality gets the chance to break it to us. Inspired by the nightmarish images of dystopian films and video games, the haunting post-apocalyptic landscapes, commenting on the vanity of human aspirations, let imagination run wild about the “how” and “why” questions.
About the artist
James Chadderton is a mixed media artist based in Manchester, UK. His work, consisting mostly of post-apocalyptic landscapes, collapses the boundaries between traditional and composite drawing. James’ drawing style is characterised by a tendency towards magic realism, or moments of fantasy within realistic portrayals. His playful, colourful, and at the same time dark and nightmarish landscapes open up possibilities within the space between reality and fiction, or intent and interpretation.
James’ art, by exposing the world and its complex, unspoken ways long before reality, forms an investigation into issues of human existence and aspirations. In his semi-fictional world, irony and cheerfulness meet fear of transience and death; and It is precisely in the synthesis of these opposing, colliding worlds that the attraction of his work lies.
Avid fan of post-apocalyptic films, science fiction, and video games, James has collaborated with EA at the Battlefield franchise as well as music legend Peter Hook at EP 1102/2011, and the BBC.
His work has been exhibited in Clifford Whitworth Library (Salford), Manchester Art Fair, Generation Gallery (nationwide), Incognito Gallery (Manchester), dot-art Gallery (Liverpool), and Jeffery-West (Manchester). In 2019, James won the People’s Choice Award with Liver Building, the first artwork of his post-apocalyptic Liverpool series commissioned for the Liverpool, 2028 exhibition (dot-art Gallery and Bido Lito).
Reconnect
On July 2nd, the exhibiton of English artist, Janet Flynn, opens its doors to all Plastico’s friends and guests.
Curated by Dubai gallerist, Sharon Harvey, Janet's paintings invite us to disconnect from the confusion and uncertainty of recent times. Her paintings are a series of exquisitely observed insights into the natural world, constantly changing colours, moods and seasons.
