The people
Co-founders Spiros and Chiara moved to Syros armed with a big idea: to open an informal gallery where art and coffee would combine to inspire the senses and spark conversation.
Plastico opened its doors for the first time in 2018.
Blessed with creative talents and diverse interests themselves, Athens-born Spiros is an artist and a barista, while Chiara is an award-winning designer who hails from Sicily.
Plastico now attracts creative and talented people from all corners of the world, as an inspiring and transformative space that adapts to the style of each artist. Yet it is also a friendly cafe that offers a warm, welcoming embrace to everyone.
But why here on Syros? Because our combined heart is half Greek and because this island reminds us of Italy. What a perfect match!
Spiros and Chiara
A place to call home.
The island of Syros is the capital of Cyclades, and the place we carefully chose to open our beloved cafe gallery, Plastico.
From the moment we arrived, Syros felt like our home. This is because, for us, the island combines the elegance of Italian style with the vibrant colours and the sprinkles of sunshine on the Aegean sea. The familiar, majestic villas by the port of Hermoupolis reminded us of Venice, while the little theatre resembles La Scala of Milan.
As we wandered through the characteristic little streets in Ano Syros that are so typical of the Greek islands, we understood why Syros also feels like home to so many artists, intellectuals, and creatives from all over the world.
We know that Syros already inspires beauty, ideas, and a feeling of becoming.
So we chose to instil these elements into Plastico, combining them with our ideas to create a unique and imaginative space for ourselves and our visitors.
In short, we couldn't have made a better match!
